Sockatoo and Foraging

A Sockatoo is a soft, fabric-based foraging toy with multiple compartments, each filled with a mix of bird-safe treats and small enrichment surprises. Birds must manipulate, chew, pull, and puzzle their way through the layers to reach the goodies inside.

A Sockatoo encourages natural foraging behavior in a gentle, comforting way — perfect as a softer alternative to traditional wooden toys. 

We designed Sockatoo in collaboration with a noted avian veterinarian to stimulate companion parrots’ minds and bodies.  First, Sockatoos are filled with a variety of goodies of different shapes and textures.  Sockatoos are not smooth and even; they are bumpy and lumpy.  That appearance stimulates the bird’s innate curiosity to check this out.  Realizing there may be interesting things inside the Sockatoo , they use their brains to figure out a way to access these treasures within.  Second, they use beaks and talons to tear holes in the sock – YES, there are goodies in there – but how to get them out?  Third, using the brain to determine how big the hole needs to be to pull out the treasure, and beaks and talons to accomplish the task.  And the reward?  A treat to devour or a toy to play with. 

A Sockatoo gives a companion bird hours of fun, rewarding foraging activities.

Sockatoos come in three sizes: Mini, Classic, and Ultra, allowing every bird — from small conures to large macaws — to enjoy the thrill of the hunt.
